The old truck rumbled down the drive of the dusty, yet luxurious campground setting that was Verdel Camping. It stopped at the old gate hanging on the front of the campground that had been closed and locked up while he was away, save for any big group's that paid in advance for one of the cabins or cottages around the lakefront. The "lower" camping had been shut down to the public with a sign saying across the gate, "Sorry, closed for business until further notice."
A rather large man stepped out of the truck and took a look at the sign. He stood an easy 6'3", with long brown locks and had a build that screamed body builder without the huge muscle mass. Still he looked like the kind of guy you just wouldn't mess with. He was wearing dusty jeans, torn here and there a blue nondescript tee shirt in similar disrepair and oddly enough an old style bowl hat, dusty as well from travel. He looked slightly disheveled but it just seemed to suit him.
Jason Verdel had been gone too long it seemed, but it was good to be back home. He tore down the sign and opened up the gate with his master key. Climbing back into the truck he moved only 50 feet in before stopping at the first building on the right. He got out again turning the truck off, it sputtered once and then died into silence of the night. He walked up to the building and unlocked it. Walking in he looked around...and was surprised that is was clean. He chuckled and shook his head. Isabelle must have kept the place cleaned up for him. He flicked on his old computer and sure enough there was a small note from her right on his desktop reminding him that when he came back to give her a call so she could make her new website for his campground come to life.
Despite separating ways from the group, he did miss them. They helped keep his head on strait when it came down to it. He just wasn't ready to face them again and see that slight twinge of fear that would be in Isabelle's eyes. He would never live that down. He checked his email's really quick to see if he got anything from anyone else from Independence while he was off the grid. He would get to them all later though.
He knew he should go see the prince coming back into town, but he again was going to put that off till he was back up and running. Even then he might not align himself with the Camarilla again. He had enjoyed his freedom but he would always be grateful to the Camarilla for taking him in in his time of need. He just found that when he was running as an "independent" it caused less trouble with both sides. They left him alone for the most part and respected his wild nature as a Gangrel. Yes he got in a few scruff's here and there but nothing too serious that he didn't walk away from it. Almost got a job as a warden just traveling threw. But it just wasn't for him. He needed his freedom and enjoyed it.
But there was always Independence. The call of the fight that being in the middle of it all seemed ripe here. He could find his action he craved, unlike his ability to find his sire on his romp back home. At least here he had a place to hang his hat, and did so, taking the old thing and throwing it at a hat/coat rack by the door. It flew perfectly threw the air and landed with good grace. He smiled.
Then walking outside again he took in the sight of the entrance to his domain, his place. It would take a little work but he would get it up and going again. Just needed a little time and it would become busy again with all the free food he could want. He smiled a little at that...humans...food...man he had fallen so far from when he first started. But he had embraced his vampire side and he would never turn back. He had eternity in front of him to keep him entertained and he was not going to live that down.

Cyn smirked to herself as she walked towards the park, dressed in a rather similar way to Jason. Torn jeans, flannel shirt, boots, with a wolf pelt wrapped around her shoulders. Her crossbow was in her back, not bothering to avoid the mud as she made her way up from the woods. Her eyes turned to his truck as he returned, giving him time to enter his office before she moved to visit.
Even if he'd sided with the cammies, last she knew, he was still a Gangrel, and that meant he was blood. She'd tap a few times on his office door before walking inside the room, her six foot five form crouched slightly.
"I see you're back in town...been awhile."

Jason quickly looked up at Cyn and a wolfish smile crossed his face. Now this was unexpected indeed. He had made his way back inside was was sitting at the computer typing one key at a time trying to reply to an email he had gotten. He quickly stood up and nodded, not moving forward but not giving any ground either. He knew this made him the "new" Gangrel in town and so he didn't quite know what the pecking order would be. Either way he felt no threat so he gave a very relaxed stance.
"Cyn, that it has. Talk about timing, do you come to see if I'm around every night since I left?" He teased slightly at her as he didn't expect any company so soon. He had not traveled by way of there forest to get here. "Yeah my hunt came up empty so I decided to come back. It may not be my roots but it's home. How have things been since I left? I kinda did that in a hurry, the call of the wild calling me off." He knew she of all people would understand. The beast as strong in him and it would clearly call out to her. She would be able to since his kindred soul.

Cyn understood him completely, she felt the need to run free and hunt...it was what kept her away from the Camarilla. They held their beasts back, she loved to let her own free. "Nah, but I was hungry...and tonight felt like a good night to see if any new deer had wandered into your park..." She let the implication of her target prey linger as she crossed her arms.
"Rough, but as far as I know that werewolf problem has cleared up...and of course there's the Sabbat being...themselves." She'd shrug. "Logan's taken up the role of 'Alpha', which I doubt shocks you...its not like Victor will join us, he's the lap dog of that pretty Brujah now."

At the end of that comment Jason let out a huge laugh. Yeah he remembered Victor the "Candy Man". He smiled slightly at the thought. Too bad though missing that werewolf. "Well sounds like I didn't miss much. Kinda sad I never got the chance to pit myself up against that werewolf...or the Lich." If anything Jason was a daredevil who loved to pit himself into a fight. He would find any excuse to do so.
Looking back up at Cyn he shrugged. "I don't know what is traveling the campground tonight but the Gangrel are always welcome here to try there hand at some late night "hunting". I'm a bit peckish myself, care for a running mate?" It had been a while since he could let loose, and if anything came up in the news here, he could always as the owner "track and kill" any said problems. It was the joy of owning something sooo huge. It almost made him feel like the Prince of his own city. He chuckled at the thought to himself...a city of campers, tents, and a few buildings.

The evening was slow and Jake had decided to take a walk. He needed to get to know the environment. He was too happy to be out of the big city to stay downtown though. The campsite offered him the perfect freedom. He could have a look around without having to stay in the yingwese clutter. He wandered aimlessly, taking in the environment. It was a long stretch from home, but probably as close as he could get in this world.

Cyn was still grinning from ear to ear as she spoke to him, hands resting on her hips. "I do feel like stretching my legs...this damn cold front hasn't made hunting too fun. I need to sink my claws into something..."
She'd turn to the door, adjusting her jacket carefully before taking in a sharp breath. "You should show me the cool spots, I've barely been through your hiking trails, its a nice sized territory."

Jason nodded. "I'm surprised...all this time and you still haven't seen it all." He chuckled and went for the door leaving the hat behind. "I don't know if there is much out there in the way of normal "prey" but we'll see what we can find." As he touched the door handle he stopped and went quiet. His entire body falling into alert mode. A fellow Gangrel would be able to see the shift, especially going from fun and friendly to the deathly calm before the storm.
Jason's heightened senses went instantly on alert. There was someone close by...too close. He had just unlocked the gate less than an hour ago, there should be no camper's yet. He sat there for a moment, time passing as his eyes took on a hue of red. A small growl let forth from his throat. He burst open the door quickly and seemingly spanned the distance in an instant to square off with the intruder onto his lands. (Auspex 1 - heightened scenes, Protean 1 - Eyes of the beast, Celerity 2 - Movement, 1 blood point)
Jason's actions were more of that of a Sabbat, not caring that a human could see his glowing eyes, or the fact that he seamlessly came out of nowhere. His voice was harsh at the intruder as he took on an aggressive stance, arms wide, fists clenched. "Who are you, why are you here, and who sent you?" Jason didn't trust anyone new anymore. Too many people had trampled threw his life and harmed those he had cared about and while on the road, he had been targeted a time or two.

Jake made no attempt to hide how startled he was. He hadn't been expecting company, much less such a verbal assault. He instinctively reached for his badge. "Detective Yuki. Recently transferred from New York. I beg your pardon, I was simply out for a walk, getting to know the place." He wasn't used to being pushed around and ever since he got to Independence he felt he had experienced nothing else. He made a mental note of the man's appearance and demeanor, for future reference.

Jason's smile lite up at the fact that he had startled the being. He was getting better at being what he was. No stout little fledgling no more. But the place quirked his interest. New York. He had come from New York, and who would be sending a detective all the way from there to find him. No it must be a turn of fate. As the answer was given to him he backed up a step, gracefully like the predator he was. Coming back up to his full height he straitened his shirt slightly before talking.
"I see. I'm sorry Detective, you have stumbled upon private property. I'm afraid around these parts it is within Texas law to protect what is yours, any means necessary." The last three words almost bit out into the night, the veiled threat behind them very clear. Though as he said this his eye had slowly receded back to there normal blue hue. His demeanor becoming more relaxed. "I'm sorry to have startled you, I was not expecting company this night. You see I just got back from traveling a bit myself. Though New York you say. Lovely state, lovely city, save for all the drama." He chuckled, New York, not necessarily his turning grounds but the first time he came face to face with his own kind.

"I agree, big cities hold a lot of drama." Jake admitted. "I suppose it comes with the number of people, which is not much to my liking either. I prefer the quiet country." Despite being upset at the threats, both veiled and otherwise and the blatant attack on his person and integrity, merited or not, Jake decided that at least for now, amicability was his best option. He could deal with the matter later, when he knew more about who he was facing. All he knew right now was that this guy wasn't human.

Jason nodded curtly to the response. He could respect a fellow for liking the country. He himself preferred the wide open places to the city life. His gaze shifted slightly as he thought about this and he could understand why the Detective would make his way out to the middle of nowhere to find said peace. "I can understand that. I can only hope you find what your looking for. Sorry, where are my manners. I'm Jason Verdel of Verdel Camping. We are not quite open for business yet, but when we are I'd be more than happy to show you around. I was just about to take a hike to see what kind of disrepair my place had become in my absence."
As he talked he became more calm. His features shifting into a more normal human appearance. He never lost that fighters edge about him, the intimidating factor that seemed to cling to him like a second skin. (Intimidation 4, physical coercion). But you could tell he was as relaxed as he was going to get none the less. "So other than wandering what brings you out here? Man hunting?"

"As I said, just getting to know my surroundings. I hadn't realized the place was closed, for which I apologize." Jake wasn't used to people's demeanor changing from one moment to the next and his voice was faltering. For just a single syllable he sounded quite feminine. Why couldn't people just be happy with showing their true colors. If the guy had simply attacked him for entering his territory he'd have accepted that. Showing up screaming and verbally assaulting him only to turn soft in the end was either a clear sign of weakness, or the guy was hoping to use Jake for something. Trust the yingwese to be dicks about everything. Well, Jake wasn't biting.

Jason nodded curtly and then shrugged. "Apology accepted. Now if you'll excuse me, I do have quite a bit of roaming to do myself, unless you need anything else." Jason sat back the single syllable not being lost on him. He realized that he could snap this human in two if he wanted and he forgot his natural aggression tended to be strong that it had him reeling back from his initial reaction.
He made to turn though and as he did that he stopped and looked halfway over his shoulder. "I know you said your new to the area, but is the old museum in the center of town still standing? The Silverbird Institute I believe it was called." He needed to go see the prince if she was still around, but why waste a trip into town if he didn't need to.

"Yes, the institute is still there." Jake nodded "As is Lady Silverbird and her court." He hoped the subtlety was not lost on the other, but since he wasn't sure of the other's nature he decided to add. "She is however well protected so I would warn you against starting trouble if your acquaintance with her has not been positive in the past."
